On a Whim

So last night, at the despedida of yet another dear friend (why is everyone leaving...), some crazy person suggested we go to Starbucks... in Tagaytay. Now, this discussion was over beers, so I can't quite remember who the inebriated fool was who suggested it. But given that I was the only one with a long history of going on such spontaneous trips, it was probably me ;) (Note: I did not drive!)

We left esQuinita (near ABS-CBN) a bit before midnight, and after a stopover at Magallanes Shell, made it to our destination by 230. We would've arrived sooner had we not gotten stuck behind a slow-assed bus. We arrived at Starbucks half an hour before closing time and got a couple of good tables on the second floor, close to the ridge.

The weather up there was lovely and sooo worth the trip. None of us were prepared for the cold (I for one, could not have been dressed more inappropriately), so we had to rely on our hot mochas, one pillow, and a couple of malongs someone luckily had on hand, to keep us from freezing. Tagaytay at 3am is much colder than my room here in the Q.C. with the aircon on full blast. It's not that my aircon sucks... it's just really that hot here! At iba talaga ang natural na lamig.

We talked, laughed, and reminisced for a bit over an hour, then the guard came up to close shop. It was all good though, since a couple of us wanted to get home before our parents woke up anyway. I snuck in a little past 5am, then passed out 'til after noon.

All told, it was a memorable trip, and one I hope to make many more times. Last night, I actually made up my mind to eventually get a place in Tagaytay. Nothing big and fancy, just a small cozy condo to retreat to when the lowland heat gets unbearable. In the meantime though, I'll be happy to make quick roadtrips even just to grab a quick, cheap bite/drink at Starbucks, Leslie's (for bulalo!), or my childhood favorite, Mushroom Burger, and enjoy the cool weather in the company of friends.
