P.A.P.D.

"There is a land called Passive Aggressiva, and you are its queen."
- Derek to Addison, Grey's Anatomy

Grey's has introduced us to the king and queen of passive aggressiveness. Although I've heard the term before, I've never actually used it because I was never quite sure of what it means. So after Addison admitted that she is indeed the queen of Passive Aggressiva, I googled the condition (as I'm sure thousands of other fans did after that episode)so as to better understand what they were talking about and maybe start calling people P.A. Haha. TV can be very educational, or at least push us into self-learning.

Anyways, I read up on Passive Aggressive Personality Disorder and realized that we Filipinos, as a people, suffer from it. I am no exception. While I have had a few shining moments when I got so fed up with certain people that I told them exactly what I think of them to their faces... these instances do not come along nearly as often as they should. Or as often as people deserve to hear the truth.

I don't know why I'm like this. I guess you could blame it on a number of factors, but I suspect that I've become this way because our culture not only allows but encourages us to be passive aggressive.

Why do we put such a premium on so-called Smooth Interpersonal Relationships? Heck... who are we kidding by saying that avoiding confrontation leads to better relationships? Why can't we speak our minds instead of repressing our irritation, resentment, or even worse, anger? Who taught us to be this way? Certainly not the Americans... was it the Spanish? Or are we Filipinos just innately P.A.? We must be if it took our ancestors over 300 years to get their acts together, right? Our passive aggressiveness is in our modern history as well... and it seems to be manifesting itself right now, as we allow someone we all strongly suspect is irrationally power-hungry and corrupt to continue ruling.

The rant above is actually another sign that Addison is my queen. I'm passing the buck. I'm blaming my heritage when I should be looking at myself and figuring out how to get my act together. I do know that overcoming this habit of passively dealing with what enrages us on the inside will have its repercussions. The truth hurts and some people will hate you for serving it to them straight up. But there comes a point when you realize that this chronic aversion to telling it like it is serves no one. I'm not saying we should make tomorrow "Confront Your Worst Enemy Day." I'm merely suggesting that we allow the truth, however ugly it may be, to set us free.

Top 5

The results are in! Pickler is out!

Paris, Taylor, Elliott, Kat, and Chris... what an amazing group of singers. This has got to be the best Top 5 American Idol has ever had. I'm with America on this one.

Grey-minded

I am now officially hopelessly, insanely, and obsessively hooked on Grey's Anatomy. I watched the entire first season twice within 6 days (some episodes as many as thrice; some scenes, too many times). Oh, and because pirated DVDs are the way they are... my Season 1 box set includes 3 odd episodes from the second season, so I've gotten a sneak peek! Heehee. Too bad I have to wait several months before Season 2 hits the small screen here. Booo. Will you listen to me? I haven't been this hooked on a series since the days when I'd record Friends and ER on our VCR then watch the episodes over and over again. Little by little, I'm going back to my TV junkie roots. Hehe.

I've been doing a bit of surfing, reading articles about and early reviews of Grey. I seriously resent the comparison to Ally McBeal. Not that I didn't like that show -- I followed it pretty religiously through its first few seasons. But Ally herself was annoying most of the time and a little too unreal and crazy to sympathize with. Although some people seem to find Meredith annoying as well, I just don't see it. I love Mer. Maybe it helps that Ellen Pompeo is so darned pretty. And tall, too. Seeing her with her long, always-messy hair drives away the temptation to chop my locks off.

Before you start thinking I'm going the other way... I would like to profess my love for Dr. McDreamy! I actually don't know if I have a crush on Patrick Dempsey or his character or both of them. (SPOILER WARNING) After what Derek did to Meredith though, and seeing him kiss Addison... I like Derek less. Poor Mer. The girl never knew what hit her. See, even dreamy TV guys are jackasses sometimes.

His charcter's flaws aside, Patrick Dempsey really has gotten so much better with age. He's gone from being the dorkboy in Can't Buy Me Love to this oh-so-hot-and-yummy-manly-man with amazing hair you can only dream of running your fingers through and cute stubble you can only dream will tickle you. Haha. Stop it na.

I'm going to call it a night... Need to make up for lost sleep as I was up watching Grey until the sun came up this morning. Eh gad. I need therapy. Or... neurosurgery!!! As long its Dr. Derek Shepherd and Meredith Grey doing it! Wahaha!!! Zzzzz....

I am now convinced that Idol is rigged. What a joke. Like the 1950's quiz show scandals.

The only reality in this show is that America doesn't get to decide... the producers do.

I can sense another addiction forming...

Just the other night I browsed through a couple of Popwatch blog entries posted by a huge fan of Grey's Anatomy. Since it's been a while since I last allowed myself to get sucked into a weekly drama, I figured it's time to make a new commitment and Grey just might be it. How fortunate then that the pilot was aired tonight, right after American Idol!

The verdict?

Loved it!

Though I've only had about 45 minutes of it, I just know this one's a keeper...

*****
Speaking of American Idol... Elliott made me cry!!! He did exactly as Kenny said he should with his rendition of If Tomorrow Never Comes and had me bawling throughout his performance! Admittedly, my outburst may have had more to do with my current hormonal state than his actual singing... but I don't care... I still love Elliott.

Katharine was hot. She'd better not end up in the Bottom 3 again. Otherwise people are just stoopid.

Just as Taylor was starting to grow on me (I keep listening to last week's "Trouble" over and over and over...), he, I think, endangered his fave status with that lame performance. Sayang... I don't want to see him go yet.

I'm hoping Bucky will go home. I don't care if he was in his element. Going on consistency, vocal ability, and overall package... it's time for him to go home.
